Situated on a high rocky left bank of the Mtkvari River, Uplistsikhe is filled with structures from the Early Iron Age to the Late Middle Ages. The monastery remains an active residence for monks to this day. Next, you will visit Bagrati Cathedral, a landmark of Georgian architecture. Originally built in the 11th century, the cathedral was left in ruins following the Turkish invasion in the 17th century but has since been carefully renovated. Beyond its historical and architectural significance, the site offers panoramic views of Kutaisi. From there, you will continue to Martvili Canyon, a spectacular natural wonder. Stretching 2,400 meters in length and 20–40 meters in depth, the canyon features a 12-meter-high waterfall at its center. During your visit, you may see fossilized bones of prehistoric animals and traces of early human habitation in some of the canyon’s grottoes. Once a bathing site for the royal Dadiani family, Martvili Canyon today captivates visitors with its sparkling waterfalls, vibrant greenery, and unique subtropical environment.
